By Rail – The Garsdale Retreat is a five minute walk from Garsdale station on the celebrated Settle-Carlisle line which runs a regular service direct from Leeds. This line boasts some of the most stunning views seen from a train in the UK, crossing the spectacular Ribbleshead Viaduct and passing through Dent, the highest mainline station in England. If you have a heavy case or the weather is inclement we can arrange to pick you up from the station.
By Car – The Garsdale Retreat is situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park on the A684, midway between Sedbergh and Hawes.
From the M6: Turn off at Junction 37 (watch out for the cattle grids!) and take the A684 through Sedbergh following the signs to Hawes, being careful not to miss the right turn as you come out of Sedbergh. Three miles after Garsdale, you will find The Garsdale Retreat on your left-hand side just before the turning to Garsdale station.
From the A1: Turn off at Junction 51- Bedale and follow the A684 along Wensleydale, eventually passing through Hawes and Appersett. About 6 miles further along, just after the Moorcock Inn, pass under the bridge (you will then see the impressive Dandry Mire Viaduct on your left) and you will find The Garsdale Retreat half a mile on the right just after the turning to Garsdale station.
Car share: Here, at The Garsdale Retreat, we are always looking at ways to help the environment. If you are interested in the possibility of car sharing, please get in contact and we will put you in touch with any participants on your course who might be coming from your part of the country.
